In shock, Nicholas embarked on a journey to uncover the truth that took him from the Basque coast to St. Petersburg – but the answers wouldn’t come easily. In the process of digging into his past, something else happened. Nicolas began writing a novel that was met with phenomenal success, skyrocketing him to literary fame whether he was ready for it or not – and convincing him that he had put his family’s history firmly behind him.
But now, years later, Nicolas must reexamine everything he thought he knew, as he learns that, however deeply buried, the secrets of the past always find a way out.
Page-turning, layered and beautifully written, Tatiana de Rosnay's THE OTHER STORY is a reflection on identity, the process of being a writer and the repercussions of generations-old decisions as they echo into the present and shape the future.

My Review

The Other Story captures the life of the rich and famous writer, Nicholas Kolt, an arrogant man with a Social media twitter and Facebook addiction (taking him away from writing). I listened to the audio version, as entertaining for a day of running errands, driving, and jogging in the park, narrated by Simon Vance.
Nicholas is a very material minded man, and escapes to a luxurious Tuscan island resort, as he attempts to put his past to rest. As a bestselling author (when he was in his twenties), with flashbacks to circumstances which inspired his first novel, The Envelope.
Presently, he has writer’s block. His publisher and his fans are pressuring him for more, thus he thinks a change of scenery and a vacation will inspire him for the writing of his second book.
As the weekend unfolds in the present tense, he has stumbled upon a secret about his family and the mystery surrounding his father death, and embarks on a journey with his Monte Blanc pen.
Some references to famous authors and tools to enhance their successful writing, Nicholas reexamines his life, and his identity, the past and decisions which will shape his future.
