But when she whispers in Jennifer’s ear, Jennifer realises it is Abigail’s voice pleading to be found. A damp and decaying house set in acres of desolate scrubland, the farm is a place of secrets, old and new – and Jennifer must unravel them all in order to find the lost girl. But could Olivia’s bond with her twin hold the key to finding Abigail? And can Jennifer break through her silence in time to save her sister’s life? A darkly gripping, page-turning thriller that will enthrall fans of Rachel Abbott, Alex Marwood’s The Wicked Girls and Mark Edwards.
My Review
A special thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Caroline Mitchell delivers a chilling and gripping psychological thriller of dark secrets: THE SILENT TWIN (Detective Jennifer Knight #3)— a fast-paced emotional tale full of twists and turns, which will keep you on the edge- of- your-seat.
Set in Blackwater Farm, DC (a haunted house), we meet Abigail and Olivia- nine-year-old twins. Abigail goes missing. Joanna and Nick, parents. She was out there somewhere, lost and scared in the wilderness. If she was still alive. At just nine years old, she was blinded by bad vision, and no witnesses to her disappearance.
Missing children were not an uncommon occurrence in the UK. Over 140,000 children go missing each year.
DC Jennifer Knight made a silent promise. She is tenacious. She knows this situation does not add up. One way or another, she would bring Abigail home. Assigned as a Family Liaison Officer, she finds herself immersed in the middle of a dysfunctional family full of dark secrets at Blackwater Farm.
One weird crazy family. Joanna the mother is acting like the perfect wife. Nick, a Police Sergeant, seems genuinely concerned. Fiona, the housekeeper seems to be holding the family together.
A crumbling house creepy with darkness and spirits. An unraveling. A monster. Strangeness. Secrets. Creepy. Lies. Diary entries. Olivia is suffering from selective mutism since Abigail vanished.
A race against time to find Abagail and to solve the mystery—and the dark family secrets. Fans of Mark Edwards will enjoy.
Complex. Sad. Atmospheric, gritty, and dark—an edgy gripping crime psychological thriller, cop procedures, with a supernatural twist. Looking forward to reading the previous books in the series--my first book by the author. One scary read! Would not recommend reading late at night—guaranteed no sleep. Will remind you of the movie, The Conjuring.

Amazon Praise
‘Fan-bloody-tastic! I enjoyed this book so much that I forced myself to read slowly as I just could not bear for it to end… I thought the story was brilliant. The characters were creative and kept me hooked. ‘The twists and turns kept me gasping for more… Could not recommend this book any more highly!’ Crime Book Junkie ‘This is a well written supernatural detective story, with a surprising twist that I guarantee will keep you glued to the last page… at times I couldn’t turn the pages quickly enough, it’s atmospheric, gritty and at times just plain scary, and what a twist at the end.’ The Book Review Café ‘With a brilliant cast of crime characters, and a plot that was enough to make me feel dizzy, this was a compelling book that I just couldn't get enough of. Every word, every page, every murder, every guess... I couldn't wait for the final piece of the jigsaw to fit into place… the word 'thrilling' just doesn't do this justice.’ Becca’s Books
About the Author
Originally from Ireland, Caroline lives with her husband, four children and two dogs in a pretty village on the coast of Essex.
Caroline’s new novels, the DC Jennifer Knight series have been published by Bookouture. These edge of your seat crime thrillers are infused by Caroline’s experience in both the police and the paranormal. Many of you will know of my personal experiences as documented in my true story, Paranormal Intruder. During those difficult years when the activity was at its worst, my family and I felt very alone. My writing career is the silver lining which has blossomed from those dark days. Using my personal experiences in both the police and the paranormal has helped me develop immensely as an author.
In 2015 I signed with digital publishers Bookouture in a three-book deal for the DC Jennifer Knight series. I wondered if readers would suspend their beliefs long enough to take DC Knight into their hearts. An ordinary detective dealing with the extra ordinary took on a whole new level when I introduced Frank Foster AKA ‘The Grim Reaper’ in Don’t Turn Around. I was thrilled when the series became a number one best seller in the ‘serial killer’ category and rocketed up the Amazon UK book charts.I have lots more books planned for 2016 and beyond. Don’t forget to subscribe to be kept up to date with future releases and giveaways. Read More
