My Review

"Mahle raises her game with every book! A must-read riveting crime thriller series with a tenacious female detective. A huge fan...please do NOT let this series end! A favorite."

Even though I have read every book in this razor sharp, intense, gritty, and riveting series with twisty plots, smart cop procedurals and well developed characters, the Series 1-5 of the Detective Rebecca Ellis is a perfect combo of each in one convenient boxed set.

See my review of each and hopefully we have not seen the last of Detective Rebecca Ellis, the team, dad, town, and supporting characters.

Recs...

As I have mentioned in my previous reviews, the Detective Rebecca Ellis series is for fans of Lisa Gardner's Detective DD Warren series, Christina McDonald's Detective Jess Lambert series, Mary Burton, and Willow Rose's Detective Billie Ann Wilde series.

I highly recommend each All FIVE Stars.

NO WAY BACK #5

Detective Rebecca Ellis #5

ISBN: 9781837563999

Publisher: Inkubator Books

Publication Date: 06/09/2024

Format: e-book

My Rating: 5 Stars (ARC)

Robin Mahle (favorite author) returns with her popular Detective Rebecca Ellis (favorite cop procedural) following Leave No Trace #4, The Dead Lake #3, A Frozen Grave #2, and No Safe Place #1, with NO WAY BACK #5 — Ellis' most personal and emotional case yet when her half brother is found dead and caught up in a twisted evil criminal drug cartel corruption in this riveting crime thriller.

My thoughts...

"A stunner! NO WAY BACK is a smartly written, emotionally powerful, twisty page-turner. Fans of the Detective Rebecca Ellis series and tenacious female investigators will be well satisfied!"

Emotional, gripping, riveting, intense! As always, Robin Mahle dazzles with her skills in creating complex, well-written crime thrillers, balancing both personal and professional. I adore this author's writing and am a massive fan of the series.

Mahle continues to put her best characters together, which keeps you coming back for more. In NO WAY BACK #5, Ellis does a lot of soul-searching while grieving for her brother, her personal and professional life, and changes in the department. This is Ellis' most personal and emotional case yet.

Another edgy thriller from one of my favorite authors. I do hope this is not the last in the series and hope we see more from Detective Rebecca Ellis. I love her relationship with her dad, Hank, and always enjoy catching up with the fun cast of characters. Will she and Detective Euan McCallister be able to keep their relationship professional? What will happen to Connor? We have seen a lot of growth in this character since the beginning of the series.

This series is too good to end! I have enjoyed all five books in the series. Each is unique and can be read as a standalone; however, I highly recommend reading them all in order.

Leave No Trace #4

Series: Rebecca Ellis #4

ISBN: 9781837562176

Publisher: Inkubator Books

Publication Date:10/29/2023

Format: Other

My Rating: 5 Stars +

Robin Mahle (favorite author) returns following THE DEAD LAKE #3, A FROZEN GRAVE #2, and NO SAFE PLACE #1 with her popular Detective Rebecca Ellis series, and latest LEAVE NO TRACE #4 (all five stars)— A riveting cat-and-mouse crime thriller of revenge and obsession, when a killer targets a specific neighbor outsmarting everyone, even the cops. How are these families connected?

My Thoughts

RAZOR SHARP, with inventive twists... I love this series, and LEAVE NO TRACE may be my favorite yet!

Detective Rebecca Ellis, Criminal Investigation Division of the Bangor Police Department, Maine— returns, and this time, she and her team are tasked with tracking down an intruder. A shocking new case begins with stalking and intruding at night, a vicious murder, and gets darker from there.

Wow! It's a fantastic addition to the series. The perp is creepy, all his hits are planned and thought out, and the motive is mind-blowing! How far will you go for revenge?

LEAVE NO TRACE is another complex and brilliantly written crime thriller with clever plot twists, action, suspense, and heart-pounding moments as things get complicated. I enjoy this series, am fully invested in the characters, and anxiously await the next.

Mahle is a talented writer, and I am wondering if she was previously a detective, FBI, or on the police force. If not, she does her research! If you love Lisa Gardner, Lisa Unger, or Michael Connelly's books (as much as I do), this series is for you. Mahle's compelling narrative keeps you guessing to the end and then teases you with a cliffhanger, leaving you salivating for #5!

Let's talk about these CLIFFHANGERS (s). Yes, plural, TWO! From the last book, we learned of Connor Bevins's past when he confessed to McCallister. Now, the past has caught up, and Rebecca is blindsided. What will happen to Connor?

Also, in this installment, Andrew, Rebecca's ex, shows up unannounced, and he is supposedly getting married to another woman, and Andrew needs her help with a criminal manner against the two of them. Is he being set up, and will she agree to help? How will this affect things with McCallister? (please do not let them break up).

I hope we will see many more books in this series because there is much more to come!!! I will anxiously be awaiting the next in the series!

I have recently discovered this multi-talented author, and one of my favorites. I am trying to go back and read her other Kate Reid series and backlist between all the new ARCS and upcoming books I have on my schedule.

Highly entertaining! If you enjoy a blend of intelligent cop procedural, psychological suspense, crime thrillers, and a strong female detective, I highly recommend the author and this series! For fans of Mary Burton and Lisa Gardner's DD Warren series.

Check out my Fun Elevator Ride with Robin, the series, and LEAVE NO TRACE! Behind the book & the author.

The Dead Lake #3

ISBN: 9781837562053

Publisher: Inkubator Books

Publication Date: 06/25/2023

Format: Other

My Rating: 5 Stars (ARC)

Two bodies. One Spring Break. And a school full of kids who won’t talk.

Robin Mahle (fav) returns following No Safe Place #1 and A Frozen Grave #2 with her popular Detective Rebecca Ellis series #3, THE DEAD LAKE (all five stars)—when a dangerous spring break game goes badly.

TWO BODIES. SPRING BREAK. BIG SECRETS. ONE DANGEROUS GAME.

My Thoughts

Mahle reunites her most beloved characters—Det. Rebecca Ellis, Det. Euan McCallister, and Det. Connor Bevins and cameo appearances from past books —in a twisty new crime thriller with two cases that fans will devour.

The case becomes complex and leads them to past senior classes who have been involved that are older—also, an IG post.

In the meantime, as we left off from the last book in the series, sparks are flying between Detective Rebecca Ellis and Detective Euan McCallister. (I love these two together) Now that they are on separate cases, she is paired with Detective Bryce Pelletier, who also romantically likes her, but she thinks of him as a friend.

McCallister is paired with Det. Connor Bevins (age 25) and they are working on a dangerous high-profile drug trafficking case. McCallister, Ellis, and Bevins worked on the last case, Connex investigation, in the last book.

In addition, McCallister's Boston past is front and center in the media (which he confessed to Ellis the last book), with the latest Boston Globe article returning it to the surface. This is causing him and the department trouble, even though he was cleared of all charges—then a tragedy occurs. His boss does not want Rebecca dragged into this due to her past.

Rebecca knows this drowning was not an accident. Were they drugged? She must dive keep to determine the real killer since he/she may be involved in past killings and future ones. The case is complex and dangerous with many red herrings surfacing with interviews of parents, classmates, exes, past graduating classes, and the campground staff. Rebecca is determined. What is the motive of the killer?

We also get to catch up with her dad, Hank (retired cop), with a cameo appearance, and even her drug-addicted stepbrother is connected to this case.

A dangerous and chilling crime and an unstoppable detective!

What a great series! I hope this series continues, as these characters are too good to end. I want more Rebecca/Euan—it appears we may get into the dark past of Connor in the next book.

First, I was a bit worried when I saw the description that Det. Rebecca Ellis was partnered with Det. Bryce Pelletier instead of Det. Euan McCallister (big fan)?? However, never fear; we find Euan at 5% into the book and I could breathe easier. Their boss has them working on two separate cases. McCallister is partnered with Det. Connor Bevins, we met in the last book on a drug case attempting to get drug dealers off the street.

I respected Connor much more in this series; less cocky, and it seemed Euan was a good mentor for him. I liked that he came clean and opened up about his past with Euan in light of what Euan is going through and had his back.

I was delighted to see there are still sparks between the two Rebecca/Euan. I only recently discovered the multi-talented author Robin Mahle and was delighted to get in on the ground level with the start of this exciting series.

The author always delivers twisty heart-stopping suspense in this clever cop procedural crime thriller series with a cast of well-developed compelling characters, well-paced, crisp writing, and a razor-sharp leading character, Rebecca, you will root for.

For fans of Jane Casey's Maeve Kerrigan and Lisa Gardner's DD Warren series. I cannot wait to see what comes next!

This series is a great place to start, if you have not read this author. However, I recommend you start with #1. I read this one in one sitting, and unputdownable!

A Frozen Grave #2

Series: Detective Rebecca Ellis #2

Format: e-book

My Rating: 5 Stars (ARC)

Who was the dead man in the woods? And what was he hiding?

My Thoughts

Robin Mahle returns following No Safe Place (5 stars) with the second in the Detective Rebecca Ellis riveting crime thriller series with A FROZEN GRAVE —A man left in the woods for months in the snow, murdered.

A sinister and complex investigation leads to a whistleblower and a company that will stop at nothing to HIDE its deadly secrets.

A FROZEN GRAVE is another intelligent, high-stakes thriller with intrigue and suspense. The author has created a fantastic female lead with Detective Rebecca Ellis. She is smart and savvy, and we see her personal side and complex relationship with her dad and brother (now in rehab). Plus love the attraction and chemistry between Ellis and McCallister!

Detective Euan McCallister is quite mysterious, sexy, and intriguing (former Boston cop) with a past. Happy, he finally confessed to Rebecca about what he went through in Boston. Some sparks are flying between the two, and excited to see what is coming next with these two in #3.

Also looking forward to hearing more about Connor and what he will get into in future books.

"Mahle's second, Detective Rebecca Ellis, grabs you from page one to the explosive finale while you anxiously await #3. A propulsive, razor-sharp intelligent cop procedural meets psychological crime thriller. Lisa Gardner's DD Warren series fans will find a lot to like here! I love this series!"

I enjoy this author's writing style! I highly recommend reading NO SAFE PLACE before this one. However, the author does a great job updating you on the characters if you read as a standalone.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing…

My Thoughts

NO SAFE PLACE is the first in Robin Mahle's riveting new cop procedural/crime thriller featuring Detective Rebecca Ellis. BLOWN AWAY! Top-notch. Reminiscent of Lisa Gardner's Detective DD Warren.

I loved this book —the author's writing, and this new series, Detective Rebecca Harris and her partner! Who doesn't love thrillers revolving around corrupt and evil churches? They often hold the worst criminals disguised as saintly members with hidden dark secrets.

Sharply written, tension-filled with twists readers are unlikely to see coming, and a detective that is tough as nails! A fabulous new series and I cannot wait for the next one.

A multi-layered and complex investigation. With fast-paced, non-stop action, Ellis is tenacious and will stop at nothing to bring justice and bring down the bad guys (even if she has to break a few rules). I loved Rebecca and Euan together and hope to see more of him.

Rebecca is flawed and relatable, with a tragic past starting when she was twelve.

Her life has not been easy. Her mom and dad separated when she was young and her mom married an abusive man. She wound up shooting/killing her stepdad at age 12 while trying to protect her mom. Unfortunately, she was unable to save her mom.

Her dad remarried (wife now deceased) and had another child, Carter (age 23), her half-brother, which is always in trouble and a drug addict. He is an ongoing source of her problems between her and her dad.

Her partner Detective Euan McCallister comes from Boston and he also has some mysterious secrets from his past and things he is dealing with regarding a past murder. The two make for a great duo and Detective Ellis does not take crap from anyone! Love her.

Immersive, propulsive, utterly chilling, yet, profoundly moving. From well-developed characters, and vivid settings/descriptions, fans of kick-ass female investigators will be well-satisfied. This author's writing is highly impressive. For fans of Lisa Gardner and Karin Slaughter. (two of my favorites).

NO SAFE PLACE brilliantly explores how evil is passed down from generation to generation and the true nature of humanity. It's a gripping mystery and psychological suspense thriller that will keep you up late at night, haunted by the events within its pages. I read in two sittings.

I have just discovered a new favorite author. Robin Mahle has just been added to my list, and looking forward to reading her backlist and new upcoming books.

NO SAFE PLACE is prime for the small or big screen!

I purchased the e-book and the hardcover. Hope this comes in audiobook format later. I cannot wait for the next in the series! If you enjoy corrupt churches and priests, check out Aime Austin's legal crime thriller, (Nicole Long Series) Outcry Witness and upcoming Without Consent.
