FBI Agent Atlee Pine’s harrowing search for her long-lost sister Mercy reaches a boiling point in this breakneck thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author David Baldacci.
For her entire life, FBI agent Atlee Pine has been searching for her twin sister, Mercy, who was abducted at the age of six and never seen again. Mercy’s disappearance left behind a damaged family that later shattered beyond repair when Atlee’s parents inexplicably abandoned her.
Now, after a perilous investigation that nearly proved fatal, Atlee has finally discovered not only the reason behind her parents’ abandonment and Mercy’s kidnapping, but also the most promising breakthrough yet: proof that Mercy survived her abduction and then escaped her captors many years ago.
Though Atlee is tantalizingly close to her family at last, the final leg of her long road to Mercy will be the most treacherous yet. Mercy left at least one dead body behind before fleeing her captors years before. Atlee has no idea if her sister is still alive, and if so, how she has been surviving all this time. When the truth is finally revealed, Atlee Pine will face the greatest danger yet, and it may well cost her everything.
My Review
A Top Notch Thriller!
I have read all the books in the series and was excited to catch up with FBI Agent Atlee Pine in MERCY, the fourth and final installment in the Atlee Pine series while searching for her twin sister, Mercy.
This riveting crime thriller was well worth the wait! An emotional journey and a heartfelt reunion of two twin sisters. My favorite of the series!
Atlee Pine's mom left her years ago. Her sister Mercy was abducted when she was six. She has searched for her all her life.
In this series, she gets assistance from her biological dad (who is mega-rich) and has connections. Jack Lineberry, is a rich guy who has homes in Atlanta and elsewhere, cars and jets and enough money to help out his daughter in search of Mercy.
She is still on leave from the FBI while traveling with partner Carol Bum (a mother figure and competent paralegal). They run into many issues and help out a young girl who was being abused by two monsters and kept in a cage (their slave).
This leads them to connections and her sister, who is going by another name, after escaping her abusive adopted parents (they kept her as a prisoner/slave). The man was murdered. The evil woman, they now have (what a piece of work).
In a race against time, Atlee and her partner (Carol) a mother figure and a very smart paralegal, get involved with some bad guys while trying to track down Mercy.
However, true to form, Baldacci does not make this adventure simple. Mercy has been through hell and back and has been traumatized by many monsters. She has scars on the inside and outside. She is a survivor and a badass! She does not trust easily, and who could blame her.
Their search takes them from Georgia to Asheville, NC. David Baldacci knows how to keep the suspense high, action-packed, and twists around every corner. Jack also has some super surprises for the girls, which you will not be anticipating.
Multi-layered, rich in character, the author, of course, wraps up this series like a rock star! Fans will hope we will see more of Mercy and Atlee and fingers crossed for a spin-off with Mercy!
I highly recommend the audiobook narrated by my two favorite narrators, Brittany Pressley and Kyf Brewer! Award-winning, I listened in two sittings and would never miss an audiobook by these two!
Fans will devour this one! If you have not read the previous books, the author does a great job providing the back story. I LOVED THE ENDING!
